Karachi, Pakistan – May 20, 2025: The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has introduced a countrywide “Go Cashless” campaign, aiming to advance digital access and strengthen financial independence for the general public.
This campaign, which runs from May 20 to June 6, 2025, underscores the central bank’s ongoing commitment to expanding financial access and strengthening citizens’ right to secure and convenient financial services.
With support from Pakistan’s banking sector, the campaign targets 54 key cattle markets across the country, where buying and selling of sacrificial animals is traditionally conducted in cash. The SBP’s strategy aims to transform these high-volume markets into digital transaction hubs—offering buyers and sellers an alternative to cash, with a focus on safety, transparency, and ease of access.
As part of this inclusive move, digital payment systems will be operational for multiple services in the markets, including animal purchases, feed and water costs, and parking charges. To make digital access even more equitable, the SBP has introduced temporary enhancements in transaction limits from May 19 to June 15, 2025:
- Branchless Banking Level-1 Accounts, Asaan and Asaan Digital Accounts, and Merchant Accounts will benefit from lifted daily transaction caps and an increased monthly limit of PKR 5 million.
This policy change is especially significant for individuals in underbanked and rural areas, offering them the right to participate in a modern financial ecosystem without being excluded due to traditional barriers.
The SBP is urging all citizens to embrace these secure and convenient digital services, which not only support a cashless economy but also uphold the fundamental human right to equitable financial inclusion. Taking part in the “Go Cashless” drive allows citizens to actively contribute toward creating a transparent, inclusive, and future-ready financial framework in Pakistan.
