SUPARCO has announced the expected date of Eid-ul-Adha, which is likely to be celebrated across Pakistan on Saturday, June 7, 2025. This prediction is based on astronomical calculations that state the new moon of Zil Hajj will be born on May 27 at 8:02 PM.
At sunset on that day, the moon will be only about 11 hours and 34 minutes old—making it difficult to be sighted. Therefore, the first day of Zil Hajj is expected to be May 29.
While SUPARCO offers a scientific forecast, the official date of Eid-ul-Adha will be confirmed by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, based on actual moon sightings and weather conditions.
Religious Importance of Eid-ul-Adha
Also known as the "Festival of Sacrifice", Eid-ul-Adha commemorates the devotion of Prophet Ibrahim (A.S.), who was ready to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah’s command. Muslims around the world mark this occasion by offering Qurbani—sacrificing cows, goats, sheep, or camels.
The meat from the sacrifice is shared in three parts: one for family, one for relatives and friends, and one for the poor. This practice highlights generosity, compassion, and the Islamic value of sharing.
Eid-ul-Adha and Human Rights
Eid-ul-Adha promotes the universal values of human dignity, social justice, and equality. The Qurbani not only fulfills a religious duty but also ensures that the underprivileged enjoy festive meals and feel included in the celebrations.
This act supports basic human rights such as the right to food and a decent standard of living, particularly for the economically challenged sections of society.
Fostering Unity and Social Harmony
Beyond rituals, Eid encourages community unity through collective prayers, shared meals, and acts of goodwill. These gatherings bridge gaps between rich and poor, promote harmony, and strengthen social ties.
As Pakistan prepares for Eid-ul-Adha, SUPARCO’s forecast reminds us of the true essence of the festival: faith, generosity, sacrifice, and humanity. It’s a time not just to celebrate but to reflect on the moral and humanitarian lessons that Eid-ul-Adha teaches us.
In essence, Eid-ul-Adha goes beyond religious celebration. It carries a timeless message of equality, sacrifice, and shared humanity.
